BlackLab Experiments
in Critical Black Studies
Black Lab: Experiments in Critical Black Studies is a project of the faculty in English whose research, teaching and writing are significantly dedicated to the epistemological critique of Western knowledge formations by Black, diasporic, decolonial, and Indigenous subjects. As colleagues and friends, we cooperate to organize programming and cross-field curricular innovation, including talks, panels, reading groups, roundtables and advanced seminars. As distinct as these activities sound, every event is connected to every other one in an already always ongoing series of long or intermittent conversations among us, recalled from stolen time in between classes and from extramural discussions over email and text, that these talks, panels, lectures, and roundtables only formalize for our academic setting. Black Lab is as much a community of Black Studies scholars in English as it is a thriving interdisciplinary academic project animating humanities scholarship at Rutgers and places well beyond it.
